Ski Tour to the Sonnkogel – A Leisurely Midwinter Ski Tour

Even the two-kilometre route from the Puradies to the Hütten car park, the starting point of this idyllic ski tour in Leogang, leads over crunching snow and idyllic, snow-covered stretches of forest and meadow that in themselves bring winter joy. From the car park, the path then climbs slowly along the Grießner Bach stream. Passing the Lehenbrandhof, it continues through quiet patches of forest and open meadow slopes until the high Blechwand finally comes into view and the last climb to the summit cross begins.

The ski tour up the Sonnkogel is perfect for a family holiday in Leogang: the ascent is never particularly steep, but it is scenic. Well below the summit, small benches and rocky outcrops invite you to linger and catch your breath, and at the summit of the Sonnkogel at 1,727 metres, you can recharge at leisure while admiring the Kitzbühel Alps.

Back at the Puradies, the family break in the Heaven Spa afterwards feels all the more deserved – while the children splash about, the parents relax in cosy warmth.

Moderate Ski Tours in Leogang

For everyone who has already gained some experience and is looking for the next adventure, the Pinzgau region offers varied, moderate ski tours. These routes feature longer climbs, magnificent views – and cosy alpine huts for a well-deserved rest.

Biberg Ski Tour – Pure Nature

Anyone who starts this ski tour in the Pinzgau early in the morning with the first rays of sunshine at the car park of the Biberg summer toboggan run will be rewarded with a very special, misty atmosphere. The route winds through patches of forest and open sections; sometimes the valley appears ahead of you, sometimes the next hill – always accompanied by the soft crunch of snow under your touring skis. Ski tourers can look forward to ungroomed routes and a pure winter fairy tale, because as the Biberg is no longer used for regular skiing, the slopes are no longer groomed. The ascent on this ski tour takes place in open terrain and demands muscle and stamina, but at every resting spot you are rewarded with a sweeping view of the Steinernes Meer and snowy Saalfelden.

By the way, you can also go tobogganing on the Biberg in Saalfelden – on a 6 km natural toboggan run. With the Saalfelden Leogang Card, which you receive during your stay at the Puradies, you enjoy one free return trip per person and stay in winter, as well as discounts at numerous attractions in the region.

Walking time: approx. 2:30 hours

Kuhfeldhörndl Ski Tour – Not Too Hard & Not Too Easy

The ski tour up the Kuhfeldhörndl is the ideal moderate tour for all ski tourers. It starts just a few minutes' drive from the Puradies at the historic Knappenstube. From here, you first climb gently across the long meadows of the Adamalm before the ski tour continues into the cirque between the fore-summit of the Spielberghorn and the Kuhfeldhörndl. The higher you climb, the more impressive the views become – not only at the summit, but already along the way, your gaze sweeps far across the snowy Pinzgau.

As you gain altitude, the terrain sometimes tests your fitness, and occasionally you have to take off your skis for a short section before approaching the sun-kissed summit on the final stretch. The descent follows the familiar path back: you glide over the Köpfl into the cirque, take deep breaths of winter air, and soon the alpine meadows open up for an enjoyable descent down into the valley. Along the way, viewpoints repeatedly invite you to pause, marvel at nature – and perhaps take a souvenir photo.

But be careful! Caution is required on this ski tour in Leogang: there is a risk of avalanches here.

Difficult Ski Tours in the Salzburger Land – for Experts & Adventurers

The alpine surroundings around Leogang also offer the right terrain for experienced and ambitious ski tourers. Difficult ski tours lead up steep peaks and through deeply snow-covered gullies – and require fitness, alpine experience and perhaps also a little courage.

Schwalbenwand Ski Tour – The Ultimate Challenge

Finally, we present a true ultimate challenge among the ski tours of the Salzburger Land: the Schwalbenwand ski tour. The ascent begins in the valley near Gerling at an altitude of around 900 metres. The route first leads through the dense, snow-covered Schwalbenwald forest, which, with its wintry tranquillity and sheltered passage, offers a gentle, atmospheric start to the tour – with a moderate climb.

After the forest section, the terrain opens up and the tour becomes technically more demanding. Here, the paths climb steeply in places through more open, treeless alpine terrain – the last metres of altitude up to the summit of the Schwalbenwand at around 1,870 metres require sure-footedness and good fitness. At the top, an overwhelming panorama rewards you with views of the Saalfelden valley, the Steinberge and the surrounding peaks. The descent usually follows the ascent track and delights with varied deep-snow sections.

Walking time: approx. 4 hours
Distance: 6.7 km
Elevation: 1,200 m ascent / 1,200 m descent
